We blame packaging… while 1/3 of food is wasted

For more than 30 years, EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) has structured the packaging industry. Yet recycling still levels off at around 69%, and some sectors struggle to organize themselves.

The regulatory framework is in place (AGEC law, PPWR), and so are the targets. But on the ground, the challenges remain numerous: insufficient collection systems, technical constraints, fragile economic balances…

Meanwhile… a preventable global scandal

The facts are clear: according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, one third of global agricultural production is lost due to a lack of infrastructure and suitable packaging.

At the same time, the UN estimates that 1.26 billion people could be fed by reducing these losses.

Packaging is not the problem. It is part of the solution!

Protecting, preserving, transporting, extending shelf life: when well designed, it directly helps fight food waste.

At Hanova, we have developed a range of food packaging that allows pouches to be reused multiple times, thanks to their pre-cut design and resealable closure.

This way, food is kept longer, in good conditions, and food waste is reduced!

Should we finally change our perspective? Curious to hear your thoughts: is packaging still too often seen as a problem rather than a solution?
